Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Sašo Ivanovski as the 2024 IADR Distinguished Scientist Isaac Schour Memorial Award. Ivanovski, from the University of Queensland, Australia, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 102nd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 53rd Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the 48th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, on March 13-16, 2024, in New Orleans, LA, USA.
Ivanovski is Dean and Head of School at The University of Queensland School of Dentistry. He is a registered periodontist and a practicing clinician in a part-time specialist practice limited to periodontics and surgical implant dentistry. He graduated with BDSc (Honors) from the University of Queensland Dental School in 1993. He subsequently completed a BDentSt research degree in 1995, following which he was awarded a National Health and Medical Research (NH&MRC) postgraduate scholarship and completed a PhD in 2000. This was followed by specialist training leading to an MDSc in Periodontology in 2002.
Ivanovski was a NH&MRC postdoctoral fellow and a Senior Lecturer in Periodontology at the University of Queensland from 2003 to 2006. During this period, he was awarded a fellowship by the International Team for Implantology and spent a year as a clinical fellow at the Eastman Dental Institute in London. He has published 202 papers with more than 5,500 citations and a H-index of 39. He has also received more than $10 million in funding as chief investigator for numerous projects.
Funded through a generous endowment provided by Bernard G. Sarnat, a former graduate student of Isaac Schour, and Rhoda G. Sarnat through the Sarnat Family Foundation, the Isaac Schour Memorial Award consists of a monetary prize and plaque and recognizes outstanding scientific contributions in the anatomical sciences, including tissue engineering, tissue regeneration and stem cell research as it relates to the oral, dental, or craniofacial complex. It is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR.
