Alexandria, VA, USA, June 22, 2022 – The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) announced that Peter Mossey, University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom, is the recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Craniofacial Biology Research. Mossey was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the virtual 100th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, held in conjunction with the 5th Meeting of the Asia Pacific Region on June 20-25, 2022.
Mossey is Professor of Craniofacial Development and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, and Associate Dean for Internationalization, at the University of Dundee, in the United Kingdom. He completed a Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Dundee and his PhD at the University of Glasgow, followed by a diploma in Orthodontics in Edinburgh.
Over the course of his career, Mossey has made significant contributions to our understanding of craniofacial birth defects, with a major emphasis on genetic aspects of these conditions. His work spans both fundamental research and translational efforts, with implications for prenatal screening, clinical management, and treatment outcomes for patients with orofacial clefting. He has presented numerous papers on this subject at IADR and other scientific meetings and has published more than 120 peer reviewed publications in the field.
The IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Craniofacial Biology Research recognizes individuals who have contributed to the body of knowledge in craniofacial biology over a significant period, and whose research contributions have been accepted by the scientific community. It is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR. The award consists of a monetary award and a plaque.
