Kerstin Galler Named Recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Pulp Biology & Regeneration Award

Alexandria, VA, USA, June 22, 2022 – The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) announced that Kerstin Galler, University Hospital Erlangen, Germany, is the recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Pulp Biology & Regeneration Award. Galler was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the virtual 100th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, held in conjunction with the 5th Meeting of the Asia Pacific Region on June 20-25, 2022.

Galler is Full Professor and Department Chair, Department of Restorative Dentistry and Periodontology, University Hospital Erlangen, Germany. Previously, Galler was Associate Professor and Deputy Department Chair, Section Leader for Endodontology and Dental Traumatology, in the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Periodontology at the University of Regensburg, in Regensburg, Germany. 

Galler obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery and Doctoral Degree in Dentistry at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet, in Munich, Germany. She then completed her PhD in Bioengineering at Rice University in the USA and did postdoctoral training in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Baylor College of Dentistry, Texas A&M, Dallas, Texas, USA under the mentorship of Dr. Rena D’Souza.

Among her numerous awards are the Research Award of the German Association of Dentistry (2017); Research Award of the German Association for Restorative and Regenerative Conservative Dentistry (2015); Award of the German Association of Endodontology “Best International Publication in Endodontics” (2013); Award for “Best Habilitation” at the University of Regensburg for 2011 and Walkhoff-Award of the German Association of Restorative Dentistry “Best International Publication” (2012).

She has given numerous papers and symposia presentations at IADR, has published about 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and is most recognized for her work on stem cell biology, synthetic and natural scaffolds, cell-based and cell-free pulp regeneration, signal molecules in dentin, and conditioning of dentin for pulp regeneration.

The IADR Pulp Biology and Regeneration Award is supported by Dentsply Sirona and consists of a monetary award and plaque. The award recognizes, encourages and stimulates outstanding research contributions in the field of pulp biology. As one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards, this award is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR.
