  Cabify

  Passenger transport via app in Barcelona. Cabify is a Spanish transportation service that provides vehicles for hire via a smartphone app. Cabify cars are driven by their owners, who must be licensed in accordance with city regulations.

  Cabify charges by distance traveled and chooses the fastest route, so the price doesn't change based on traffic. You can also tip your driver through the app after your ride by rating them 5 stars and choosing a tip amount.

  To request the “Taxi” category, just follow these steps in the app:

  • Download the “Cabify” app on a smartphone
  • Create an account with your phone number, email address, name and password
  • Type in where you want to go.
  • Select the category Taxi or Easy Taxi. (If it's not showing up in the app, swipe up to see all the available categories.)

  Uber

  Uber ride-hailing / ridesharing service. Uber operates in Barcelona but not in the same way as other markets. It works as a taxi app. Uber is now back in Barcelona but instead of having its own Uber drivers, the app lets taxis use its software at no cost. 

  How it works:

  • Download the “Uber” app on a smartphone
  • Enter your pickup and drop-off locations
  • Select one of the taxi products from the list of ride options
  • You’ll be matched with a licensed taxi driver to assist you with your trip

  1. Open your app to request a ride

  • When you’re ready, open the Uber app to request a ride to your destination. Choose the BCN transportation option that suits your group size and luggage needs.

   2. Follow directions in the app

  •  You’ll get directions about Barcelona Airport pickup points directly in the app. Pickup locations may vary by terminal. Rideshare pickup signs might also be available at Barcelona Airport.

  Taxi

  Taxis from Barcelona Airport offer their services 24 hours, waiting for passengers at the taxi stands are located in both terminals. Travel time is approximately 25 minutes.

  Barcelona taxis are famous for their colors: they are black with the doors and the trunk in yellow.

  Tariffs from 1 January 2024
  Public taxis can apply four types of fares in Barcelona. These fares must be visible inside the taxi, usually printed on a sticker over the window. Finally, the amount payable must be indicated on the taximeter.

  Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB)

  With TMB App, you can find public transport and bicycle options, use T-mobilitat and make all the queries you need to plan your journeys around Barcelona and the metropolitan area. You can also quickly check the status of your favorite routes and stops and search for the nearest stations and stops with the new integrated scanner.

  The line L9 Sud Metro connects Barcelona downtown with the airport.

  The L9 Sud has stops at 15 stations until it gets to the airport terminals. The line begins at Aeroport-T1 and stops at Aeroport-T2, ending at Zona Universitaria station.

  

   

  

   

  Metro stations at the airport

  At the airport, the first stop coming from Barcelona is Aeroport-T2, and has its entrance near the train station at terminal T2.

  • Terminal T2, outside terminal. 

  The other stop, Aeroport-T1, is at terminal T1 and is the end and beginning of line L9 Sud. The entrance is on Level 0, close to the buses.

  • Terminal T1, floor P0.

  The estimated travel time is 32 minutes from the Zona Universitaria station to the last stop at T1; commercial speed of the train is 37 km per hour.

  The metro station, "El Maresme Fórum on the (yellow line, L4)," is located only a few minutes from CCIB. A Barcelona Travel card can be purchased in advance to enjoy unlimited travel on Barcelona’s public transportation network without worrying about traffic zones and ticket prices.

  

   

  The frequency of passing trains is every 7 minutes or so, but it can be reduced to every 4 minutes in specific occasions that generate high demand. Check the timetable of the airport's underground stations.

  Tickets and transport tickets to the airport

  Airport Ticket from TMB: 

  • Ticket valid for a single trip to the airport from any network station or subway to get from the airport to any metro station in Barcelona.
  • Airport fare: € 5,15 €.

  Other tickets valid for travel to the airport in the TMB tickets are:

  • T-Dia, T-12, Targeta Rosa, T-4, T-Mes, T-Jove, T-quarter, T-50/30, T-70/30, T-FM / FN 70/90, Passing metropolitan companion, Passing pensioner FGC and BCN card Hello! 2, 3, 4 or 5 days.

     

   

  Bus

  Another option to navigate to and from the airport is by the Barcelona bus system. These busses all have service to the airport: 

  • Aerobús A1, Aerobús A2, 46, L77, L99, N16, N17, N18, PR1, PR2, PR3

  There are Aerobuses going to both T1 and T2.

  Aerobuses look different to the standard Barcelona TMB buses. The Aerobuses for T1 and T2 are light and dark blue and have 'Aerobús' written down the side in a bubbly style of writing.

  When you board the Aerobuses from the city to the airport, be sure to check which terminal you depart from. The T1 and T2 Aerobuses go to separate terminals, and you can ask you driver to confirm.

  RENFE TRAIN

  • The RENFE train will take you from the Barcelona airport to the city centre where you can change for the metro system at either Barcelona Sants (Sants Estació) or Passeig de Gràcia stations. The travel time is about 25 minutes.

• Tips for Visitors

  • Travel in groups and avoid walking alone on unlit streets at night.
  • Pay attention when walking and using your smart phone as these devices are commonly the target of thieves.
  • Do not leave your purse, backpack, or briefcase unattended, especially not on the back of your chair.
  • Do not carry your passport to the convention center or restaurants. Lock your passport in your guest room safe or in a secure bag at the Coat and Baggage Check in the Convention Center.
  • Be on the lookout for pickpocketing. Consolidate your wallet. Don't bring every credit card and move it to your front pocket or/and wear a cross-body bag rather than a shoulder strap to keep your purse in front of you.
  • Do not display large amounts of cash in public places.
  • Remove your delegate name badge when leaving your hotel or Convention Center.
  • When hailing a ride via a mobile app, confirm the identity of your driver before getting into the car.
  • If you are intoxicated, please take a taxi or Uber instead of walking or driving.
  • Trust your gut instincts. If someone or something seems suspicious, leave the area, alert a police officer. 
  • If approached by strangers for money or con games, such as, “I bet I can tell you where you got your shoes,” do not participate. Simply smile and walk past them.
  • When approached by a panhandler simply say “no, thank you” or “no, sorry.” Avoid negotiations or saying things like “I have no change” because they take bills.
  • Lock car doors. Stow valuables out of sight in your vehicle.
  • Ensure that your hotel room door is fully closed and locked at all times.
  • Do not leave your drink unattended at a bar, restaurant, or event. Do not accept drinks from strangers.
  • Wear bright-colored clothing when outside after dark.
  • Avoid irregular street vending. It is prohibited for sellers and it is penalized with fines for buyers. Make your purchases at regulated shops.

  Guardia Urbana de Barcelona (municipal police force of Barcelona)

  The Guardia Urbana de Barcelona is in charge of Safety, Prevention, and Coexistence in this city. The Guàrdia Urbana is responsible for ensuring security in the following areas:

  • Citizen security: The Barcelona Guàrdia Urbana is responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property in the city. This includes preventing and investigating crimes, cooperating with other security forces during emergencies, conducting patrols to prevent criminal acts, and managing situations of conflict.

  • Road safety: The primary responsibility of the Barcelona Guàrdia Urbana is to guarantee safety in the flow of traffic within the city. This includes regulating traffic, preventing accidents, managing traffic-related information, and cooperating with other organizations during emergencies. Special operations are also organized to safeguard school environments.

  • Administrative policing: the Barcelona Guàrdia Urbana conducts administrative inspections of establishments, activities and events in the city. During these inspections, officers verify compliance with the requirements established in the corresponding activity license and current general and specific regulations.
    In addition, they work closely with other municipal services and the relevant judicial authorities to ensure compliance with ordinances and other legal provisions.

• Requesting Visa Letter During Registration

  Visa letters will be issued only for registered attendees.

  Attendees can request a visa letter during the online registration process by selecting one of the two options below:

  • Attendee requiring visa letter, or
  • Student requiring visa letter (only for student attendees).

  All visa letters will be sent via email by default

  Once payment is completed, the visa letter will be sent automatically via email. There will be a link on the top of the page to retrieve the PDF version of the letter.

  A visa letter with a wet signature can be requested during the online registration process. The letter will be sent via regular mail within 2 business days to the mailing address listed on your account. There is no tracking number for this service. It may take up to 10 business days or longer to receive the mail, depending on the local postal service.

  An express shipping visa letter is available for an additional fee and can be added to the registration during the online process. The letter will be sent within 2 business days. It may take 3-5 days for the letter to arrive depending on the location and local situation.

  If you have already completed the online registration and did not request a wet signature, or would like to pay for an express shipping, please email registration@iadr.org. Please make sure the mailing address on your account is valid.
